Aluminium Sulphate MSDS

Product contains Aluminium Sulphate CAS No: 10043-01-3  99.9%. Al₂(SO₄)₃  Density approximately 1.62, melting point 770 degrees C.   Other names= Aluminium Sulfate,  Papermaker's Alum, Cake Alum.

This product is used as a coagulating agent or flocculent in water and wastewater treatment. Also used in papermaking, for synthesizing various 'alums' for crystal growing and it can be used for rejuvenating lead-acid batterys.  Other uses include lowering soil PH and an accelerator in concrete mix.

This product is corrosive.

Toxicology

Product may cause severe irritation and contact dermatitis to the skin and will cause severe irritation to the eyes.  Harmful if swallowed or inhaled. 

First Aid Measures

Eye Contact: flush the eyes with water for a minimum of 15 minutes, consult a medical professional immediately.

Skin Contact: In case of direct contact, the affected person should wash the contaminated area with large quantity's of water (soap and water may help), if redness, a rash or chemical burns are noticed see a Medical professional.

Inhalation: Consult a medical professional immediately, may be irritating to the lungs

Ingestion: One should immediately seek medical attention in case of ingestion of powder or concentrated solution. 

Personal Safety Measures

Care should be taken to avoid direct skin and eye contact. Proper gloves, protective clothing and goggles are recommended. A suitable dust mask is recommended if there is any chance of airborne dust.

Storage Instruction

This product should be stored in sealed containers in a cool and dry place.

Fire Hazards and Fire Fighting Measures

This is not an inflammable substance, it will not contribute to a fire.

Accidental Release Measure

In case of accidental spillage or leakage, the spilled material should be swept up and disposed of in a plastic bag.  It is an environmental hazard so must be contained and prevented from spreading to the environment.
