Fused Silica Crucible for Melting Gold or Silver

A fused silica ceramic bowl style crucible designed to be easier for torch melting of gold, silver or copper.

Suitable for melting down your prospected gold, smelting small batches, casting for jewellery or any other small casting jobs. For best results you'll need MAPP gas or Oxy/Acetylene etc. Propane torches can work but it's hard to get it hot enough with just propane.    

These can also be used in a gas or induction furnace. 

This crucible is 60mm across and approximately 20mm high, they weigh just under 40 grams. These have a maximum capacity of 100 grams of gold and a top working temperature of around 1200 degrees Celsius.  

These crucibles need to be seasoned before use with borax, heating to a cherry red and sprinkling with powdered borax until it's got a good, glassy coating all over the working side. 

Use with cation and all PPE and safety standards, hot ceramic and molten metals are dangerous!
