Our Unique Anglesea Vivianite Hand Made Jewellery

Found washed up after a storm on a small beach in Victoria, Anglesea Vivianite is a rare Australian gem. This unique stone produces bespoke pieces of jewellery customised from start to finish.

To create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery, we start with the rare nodular form of Anglesea Vivianite.

This beautiful stone washes up after a storm on a small Victorian beach, collected only at low tide.

Displaying stunning hues of green and blue we carefully work it into a unique custom piece of jewellery. Each piece is hand cut right here in Victoria to highlight the finest parts of that individual stone. We then set it in 100% recycled, Australian sterling silver and let you add it to the chain of your choice.

Intrigued about this gem of stone? We are too, and love using it to create striking pieces of jewellery for you.

Where Vivianite comes from

Anglesea Vivianite washes up on a small beach right here in Victoria, Australia. This nodular form of Vivianite is rare. In fact, it’s found in just one other location in Japan.

The stone itself is believed to form in fossilised crab burrows when all the elements are just right. It’s easier to find after a storm and is collected only at low tide. The exact location of sourcing tends to be a closely guarded secret that few will tell (that’s right – our lips are sealed!).

Vivianite is a lighter white tone to begin with. It’s the exposure to natural light that transforms it into the beautiful tones of blue and green tones you see in our jewellery.

Why Vivianite is such a unique gem

Vivianite can be found across the globe, but this nodular form of Vivianite is only found in two locations worldwide. Lucky for us, one is right here in regional Victoria. It allows us to create bespoke pieces of jewellery with Australian formed stone. It’s locally sourced and not from a million miles away. For us, this means we can produce these unique pieces at an affordable price for you.

Oh, and to add to that – did we mention that no two stones are ever the same? Each one has a varied and individual pattern of blue and green. Vivianite is an iron phosphate mineral which isn’t exactly common, especially in jewellery.

You see, the origin and formation of vivianite isn’t well understood. There seems to be a rather unique set of circumstances required for its formation. It happens and science is not 100% sure how. There’s even less information on the formation of this rare nodular form that we use in our jewellery.

It really is a unique Australian (okay, and Japanese!) gem.

How our Vivianite jewellery is made

When we receive a batch of Vivianite, we want to make sure we only use the best specimens from each collection.

Our jeweller, Toby, is meticulous in choosing each piece he works with. Then it’s on to deciding how each stone should be sliced to highlight its natural beauty (trust us, it’s not a decision he takes lightly).

Once Toby’s decided on the best option, he cuts the stone, sands it back and polishes it by hand. It’s a delicate process that reveals the unique accents of each stone. It’s what makes our Anglesea Vivianite pieces even more distinctive.

Once the cutting, sanding and polishing is done, it’s time to set it in 100% recycled, Australian solid .925 sterling silver.

Each stone ends up with a slightly varied style of setting to best highlight its individual aesthetics (oh – and it can be a littler dependent on the mood of jeweller Toby too). Then it’s over to you.

We don’t sell the stones with chains, that way you can add your own personality to your custom piece of Anglesea Vivianite by choosing a chain of your own.

You can add it to your favourite chain, buy a new one from a retailer of your choice or have a look at  the chains we offer here
