Chromium MSDS

Product contains metallic Chromium CAS No:7440-47-3 (Cr) minimum of 99.8%.

It is a very hard, somewhat brittle, bright silver coloured solid and/or powder.

Toxicology 

Product may irritate the skin and eyes, it is hazardous on inhalation and ingestion.

Elemental Chromium is considered to have relatively low toxicity but any compounds made with this product, including waste products, may be highly toxic and dangerous.   

First Aid Measures

Eye Contact: flush the eyes with plenty of water for a minimum of 15 minutes, seek medical attention if any irritation is noticed, product is hard and sharp, may mechanically damage the eye in addition to any chemical damage.

Skin Contact: In case of direct contact, the affected person should wash the contaminated area with soap and water, seek medical attention if any rash or irritation develops.

Inhalation: Move to fresh air, seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, wash mouth thoroughly and drink some water, contact poisons information line (13 11 26 within Australia) and inform them the patient has ingested elemental Chromium.

Personal Safety Measures

Care should be taken to avoid direct skin and eye contact. Proper gloves, protective clothing and goggles are essential.  This product can be dusty, proper dust protection and/or extractors are recommended.

Storage Instruction

This product should be stored in sealed containers in a cool and dry place.

Fire Hazards and Fire Fighting Measures

This substance should not contribute to a fire but may release toxic and environmentally hazardous materiel in case of a fire. Inform firefighters immediately of the presence of Chromium if larger quantity are stored. Inform your local environmental agency as soon as possible.  

Accidental Release Measure

In case of accidental spillage or leakage, the spilled material should be cleaned up with damp paper toweling. Water and detergent should be used to clean the surface. The spilled product and any contaminated materials should be disposed of in a sealed plastic bag. This product may cause significant environmental harm, take great care not to release product or byproducts to water, air or soil.
