Cadmium Metal MSDS

Product contains elemental Cadmium CAS No:7440-43-9 (Cd) minimum of 99.99%.

It is a soft, malleable silvery solid metal used for alloying, plating and in solders and brazing plus applications in chemistry and plastics.

Toxicology 

Product is highly toxic!  Care must be taken handling, using and disposing of this product.

Cadmium fumes and vapor are extremely harmful, it can create pulmonary edema and is immediately hazardous to life as well as long term damage to health.   It is harmful in contact with skin and may be fatal if ingested.

Cadmium is a probable cancer causing chemical. 

 

First Aid Measures

Eye Contact: flush the eyes with plenty of water in case of direct eye contact, seek medical attention.

Skin Contact: In case of direct contact, the affected person should wash the contaminated area with soap and water, seek medical attention.

Inhalation= dust/vapor: Move to fresh air, seek emergency medical attention.

Ingestion: One should immediately seek emergency medical attention in case of accidental ingestion, inform doctors the patient has ingested elemental cadmium.  

Personal Safety Measures

Care should be taken to avoid direct skin and eye contact. Proper gloves, protective clothing and goggles are essential.  This product may have surface oxides that may be dusty, proper dust protection and/or extractors are recommended.

Take great care to avoid breathing fumes and vapors when melting or heating this product, a well fitted respirator with correct cartridges is recommended.   

Storage Instruction

This product should be stored in sealed containers in a cool and dry place. 

Fire Hazards and Fire Fighting Measures

This is not an inflammable substance, it will not contribute to a fire. Cadmium, it's vapor and the Oxides formed may contribute a health and create a serious environmental hazard in a fire. 

Accidental Release Measure

In case of accidental spillage or leakage, the spilled material should be cleaned up with damp paper towelling. Water and detergent should be used to clean the surface. The spilled product and any contaminated materials should be stored in a plastic bag. Any waste should only be disposed of though correct toxic waste disposal channels.
